We will invest in dissemination of proper research information to the public about voluntary male circumcision."

I suppose if the information isn't leading to your desired outcome, that a man "choose" circumcision, the "information" he knows is "misinformation," and he must be "re-educated."

The question is always thus:

DOES circumcision prevent HIV?

If a circumcised man must wear a condom anyhow, what's the point of male circumcision?

"Among other strategies, he revealed that they want to employ include work place intervention and weekend camps for the targeted age groups."

This sounds very dehumanizing. Failure is gauged not on whether or not the youth are better informed about HIV prevention, but whether or not they've agreed to become part of the "mass circumcision" quota.

"Early studies by male circumcision consortium said a misconceptions about Male circumcision has been discouraging some men from getting the 'cut.' Among the main reasons the study participants cited for not getting circumcised were missing time from work during the healing period after the procedure, the length of the required post-surgical period of sexual abstinence, and the possibility of experiencing serious side effects."

The healing period and the side effects are "misconceptions?" Oh wow.

"Time away from work and cultural beliefs were considered the primary barriers to male circumcision."

Really? It couldn't possibly be that these men have actually weighed the "pros and cons," realized circumcision is not necessary to wear a condom, and have preferred to stay intact?

This isn't the first time I've heard of organizations resorting to bribery to recruit men for circumcision.

I've written about this on my blog before, here:
http://joseph4gi.blogspot.jp/2011/08/africa-when-propaganda-fails-try.html

I ask, and continue to ask, have "mass circumcision campaign" organizers ever considered the possibility that some men may never agree to get circumcised? That some men treasure their bodies and would prefer an alternative? What alternatives do circumcision campaign organizers have ready for such men? Or was preferring to stay intact simply not supposed to be an option?

Much "support" is offered to men who go in for circumcisions. But is that same "support" offered to the men who would rather learn proper hygiene and the proper usage of condoms?

These are questions that these program organizers must answer. What if despite all the efforts, the men would prefer an alternative to circumcision? Do they have that scenario in mind? Do they have education packages as part of these "mass circumcision campaigns" for men who do not want to be circumcised in place? Or are they simply not going to offer these men that option?

So much for education and informed consent...Josephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14190648498809795551noreply@blogger.com
