I want to circumcise him before he goes to his death.’ ‘He’s going to die, why do you need to circumcise him, the rabbi asked. She answered: ‘I want him to die as a Jew.’”"

I've heard a different version of this tale; the woman asked a Nazi guard for a knife... and the guard GAVE it to her, and she instinctively knew how to perform the circumcision perfectly, with no complications, and no mogen shield, just free-handed like that.

Now we have a new story, where the woman has the freedom to run anywhere to get what she needs, but instead runs to her rabbi, just so that she can have the conversation we hear today.

How convenient!

I like how the story is supposed to compel emotion. Queue the violins.

But what happens when a man or woman defies the law and s/he circumcises her daughter?

Self-serving special pleading if you asked me.

Why should only religious groups that circumcise their boys get special treatment, but not those who circumcise their girls?

Suddenly, it's not about "religious freedom" or "time-honored tradition" anymore.Josephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14190648498809795551noreply@blogger.com
